About Me

I’m Beth Rice and I am a textile artist and creator of Beth Rose Textiles. I am currently in my final year at Birmingham City University studying Textile Design, but I am originally from Nottingham. I have been interested in textiles since starting my GCSE’s, through my A-Levels and into my Art Foundation course. Textiles is now a strong part of my life and I am looking forward to where it will take me.

My Work

I specialise in machine embroidery and print; I also enjoy using the knitting machine. Usually I will combine these techniques to create mixed media textile pieces. Exploring traditional and modern techniques is important to me as well as looking into different ways to manipulate materials. I have created designs that could be applied to fashion and interior using digital printing and digital embroidery as well the traditional techniques. 3D textiles is what I enjoy the most, I would usually design the pattern on the fabric first then develop it into a three dimensional form.

Career Path

I enjoy many areas of textile design, as well as being practical I like to use CAD to develop designs further. Becoming a Textile artist/maker is passion of mine and something I want to expand on. As well as my creative practice, I believe it is important to work within the textile industry to gain a strong understanding of how it operates.

Influences

Recently I have been inspired by the changes of the human body and represent this through textiles. Many of my past project have been influenced by different aspects of the natural world, although I like to experiment different ideas that may bring an outcome which isn’t expected. Finding new techniques is important to me as well as developing on top of ones I already know. These new methods can influence how I approach the project.
